President Trump says he wants the best for Ghislaine Maxwell, who is incarcerated on allegations she has helped deliver underage girls to the accused pedophile Jeffrey Epstein.
“I don’t know, I haven’t really been following it too much. I just wish her well, frankly”, once asked whether he believes she would exploit what she has already learned about other influential people to keep herself out of trouble, Trump replied.
“I’ve met her numerous times over the years, especially since I lived in Palm Beach and I guess they lived in Palm Beach, but I wish her well.”
The president told media he doesn’t realize if Prince Andrew is accused of misconduct.
Maxwell, 58, has disputed any misdemeanors. She is likely to spend a year preparing for court at the Brooklyn Correctional Centre, where she has been imprisoned in New Hampshire since shortly after her detention on July 2.
Epstein was charged last year by the same US attorney’s office for sex-trafficking — he committed suicide in his prison cell in Lower Manhattan before he could stand trial.
In a 2015 video, Trump denounced the private Caribbean island of Epstein as a “absolute cesspool,” and implicated Andrew in abuse there.
“Just ask Prince Andrew. He’ll tell you about it,” Trump said at the time.
Virginia Roberts, who claims she was trafficked by Epstein and Maxwell, is rejecting underage sex charges by the British prince. The territory off Saint Thomas on the US Virgin Islands has also previously been toured by former president Bill Clinton.
Prince Andrew fails to comply with investigators and has withdrawn from royal duties last year after stating in a catastrophic interview that Roberts was misleading about her story because he was unable to sweat.
Last year Trump told reporters he had a long time ago falling out with Epstein though he didn’t mention why.
“I knew him like everybody in Palm Beach knew him,” Trump told reporters. “He was a fixture of Palm Beach. I had a falling out with him a long time ago, I don’t think I’ve spoken to him for 15 years. I wasn’t a fan.”
